Employment was on the rise in the month of April, Greek Labor Ministry said on Wednesday. According to the data released, almost 30,000 people were hired – even though mostly temporary workers in the tourism industry.
Data collected through the ministry’s Ergani database system showed 29,298 more people were hired in April than those who were fired or left their jobs.
According to the figures, this was just over double the amount of people hired April last year, and an increase of 8,950 positions in relation to March 2013.
There were a total of 87,779 hirings in April, while 18,078 people were sacked, 20,843 workers saw their contracts expire and 21,560 employs left their jobs via voluntary agreements.
The Ergani database records the flow of employment across Greece in terms of region, sector, company size and contract type, among other categories, in real time.
The Ergani system apparently does not record the salary-level.
Just wondering if the official unemployment rate of 27% will drop. Or we will see a balance through tourism jobs openings and closing down enterprises in non-tourism sectors. But it’s all about statistics, right?
PS good for people to get paid work then property taxes are on the rise.
