Preveza: The little extra in the salad: oil stolen from grave lamps…

The little extra in the salads was not the super quality of  extra virgin oil. It was rather a macabre touch with an oil mix stolen from graves lamps. Whether it was olive oil, sunflower oil or whatever-oil it depended on the economic situation of the widows and the orphans were putting in the lamps to honour their death. But the tricky restaurant owner allegedly would mix it and use it either in cooking or in fresh salads.

Greek media report that the owner of an expensive tavern in Preveza, North Eastern Greece, was caught red handed. Together with him was one of his employees – probably the guy who would transport the canisters. They were caught in the graveyard of nearby city of Arta.

The 40-year-old businessman and his accomplice, 42, were caught carrying containers filled with oil stolen from graves memorial lamps from the cemetery. The canisters would contain up to 50 liter of oil. The two men were detained and interrogated to ascertain the exact number of thefts they have committed.

Local media report that police investigates whether the stolen oil was indeed used in the restaurant.

Reports do not say how many tomatoes, cucumbers and onions were sold with the little macabre extra. Neither whether the widows and the widowers will demand back the stolen oil.

And, of course, it has not been reported whether the tavern was closed down due to ‘food & health law violations’

PS It’s not April 1st, is it?
