A group of some 20 people, wearing hoods and holding sledge hammers caused severe damage at the metro station of Monastiraki on Saturday night. They destroyed eight automatic ticket sellers, an ATM, five ticket machines, broke the windows of management office. They sprayed slogans and threw flyers demanding the release of “political prisoners.”
The attack at Monastiraki station occurred a day after a group caused similar damage at metro station “Keramikos” on Friday night also around 11 p.m.
In both cases, the vandals fled.
Greek police is reportedly taking extra security measures and considers to deploy riot police squads at the metro stations..
