Hussein Daitzik (or Huseyin Dayicik), a 18-year-old of Greek origin, was said to have been shot dead as he tried to protect his sister from the shots.
The Daitzik family comes from the Muslim minority in Western Thrace, in north-eastern Greece. The family migrated to Germany in the late 80’s. Hussein was born in Munich, he was one of the family’s triples.
A New York Times reporter met the boy’s father, Souleyman, outside one of the city’s hospitals as he searched for his son. He told her Hussein and his sister had gone to the shopping mall together but had become separated after the shooting started.
His daughter managed to escape from the gunfire and was rescued by the emergency services and taken to hospital, suffering trauma. Hussein’s death was confirmed later.
Greek media reported that the father suffered a heart attack after Hussein’s death was confirmed.
The boy is to be buried in Aratos village of the Rodopi Prefecture, some 14kkm away form Komotini.
The other victims were of Kossovo-Albanian and of Turkish origin.

Greek Foreign Ministry confirmed earlier media reports that “one Greek citizen” was among the dead at the Olympia Mall in Munich. No additional information about age and sex have been disclosed so far.
According to AFP news agency, also three Turks were among the innocent victims brutally killed by a gunman of Iranian-German nationality, an 18-year-old high school student.
In a press conference on Saturday morning, Munich Police said that 8 of the victims were aged 13-20 and one a 45-year-old woman.

Three victims were 13 year old, two ere 15, one 17, one 19, one 20 and one 45-yr-old.
Six were male and three were female. All were from the Munich area.
Police said that police failed to shoot him dead and that the gunman had committed suicide.
Media identify the shooter as Ali Sonboly.

Munich Police said that the gun the teenager killer used was a pistol Glock 9mm for which he did not have a license. More than 300 bullets were found in his back bag.
The question is, of course: how can a teenager obtain a gun together with bullets in a country where gun purchase is under strict restrictions.
My heart goes out to any involved – we need to get a grip on this, all of us. It is the people not the politicians who will bring this to an end.

The gun was apparently a stage prop sold on the “dark web” — which EU security services are trying to control because it involves rather nasty things, including various abuses of children.
