Suspected Islamic militant to be deported to France after he rammed Greek police car

Α 49-year-old Frenchman rammed a police car in Asprovalta in Thessaloniki, Northern Greece, and set on alert the country’s police and intelligence service.

There are a few question marks on the case as the policemen who arrested him allegedly said that he shouted “Allahu Akbar” after he had rammed the police car and the policemen had him on his knees targeting him with their guns. However, this is not officially confirmed by the Greek police.

According to Greek media, the man is a French citizen of Arab origin, suspected to have links with Jihadists, while he has often traveled to Iraq, Iran and Yemen furiong the last five years.

The man legally entered Greece’s northern borders from Turkey one and a half week ago. He was detained and questioned, and held for two days until the French authorities confirmed there was no arrest warrant against him.

He was set free but French authorities and other anti-terror channels briefed their Greek colleagues that he was suspected Islamic militant and the Greek took him under surveillance with an ‘unmarked’ car of the intelligence.

Then the incident occurred.

A court in the northern Greek city of Thessaloniki issued a 15-month suspended sentence and ordered his summary deportation Monday, records seen by The Associated Press showed.

“Police testified the man had been held for questioning for two days after crossing the border from Turkey. He was released without charge but later attacked an unmarked police car. He rammed the vehicle with his car, jumped on the hood, and pushed a nearby female police officer, the court documents said.”

Ap notes that “the man had returned from Iraq and Syria” and that Greek authorities frequently question travelers believed to be returning to Europe from Syria, often acting on information from police in other European Union countries.

  1. When you detain people for 2 days, without charges or evidence, but because of their ethnicity, you should not be surprised if they get pissed off. Apparently, the security services of Europe think that we will all be perfectly happy to be arrested and detained for no reason — all in the fight against terrorism. Personally, I would prefer that EU governments and the USA did not finance terrorist activity in the Middle East, did not illegally invade countries, and generally minded their own business other than offering humanitarian aid. Since our own government are part of global terrorism, I and most law-abiding citizens are not going to accept being molested and harassed — in this phony war against terror.
