On this freezing winter day, December 1st 2016: A new born baby is wrapped in as many blankets as possible. The mother lays next to baby’s bed in a cold and wet tent. In Malakasa refugee camp, not far away from the Greek capital.
The baby saw the light of this cruel world twelve days ago. In a hospital in Athens through a caesarean section.
Two days later, doctors told the mother she could leave the hospital. She tried to stay longer but it was not possible.
She left the hospital together with her baby. And returned to the camp.
Outside the family’s tent, the area is soaked in rain water and mud.
Containers with heating devices are expected to be set up in the next days.
Until then….
WHY WERE THEY NOT ALLOWED TO STAY IN THE HOSPITAL IN ATHENS?9
because after 2012 austerity nobody stays in hospital 1 second longer than necessary
