Chios: Brawl ends with injured migrants, local man in police station

A brawl between Afghan and Algerian migrants ended with several people injured and a local man in police station. It all started Sunday noon, when Afghan and Algerian migrants started a brawl inside the bus taking them to a provisional accommodation center.

At one point the bus was halted, and several migrants continuing their brawl with stones. They allegedly started to walk towards a tavern near the hot spot of Souda.

The father of the owner got scared, grabbed his riffle and started to shoot in the air to prohibit the migrants from coming near the tavern that was fully booked.

The police detained the man who spent the night at the police station.

An eye-witness told media, that the “raging migrants group threw stones at the people in the tavern” and that “one stone hit the owner’s son.”

The brawl left behind eight people injured, including the owner’s son.

Five of the injured have been hospitalized.

The atmosphere calmed down after the police intervened.

On Monday, the shooter was taken to the prosecutor.
