Tax auditors imposed a mammoth fine to a souvlaki grill for tax evasion. 6,367,600 euro!
During conducted controls, tax inspectors found out that the business in Chania, Crete, had not issued a total of 15,919 receipts for the sale of souvlakis and other items.
Inspectors calculated that the net value of the not issued receipts was at 70,734.34 euro plus a Value Added Tax of 15,141.56 euro. Total undeclared income: 85,884.90 euro.
However, it was not the first time the businessman was caught for selling goods but no issuing receipts and doing big scale tax evasion..
According to the Public Revenue Authority, the business was caught to have committed similar offenses in the past, therefore it imposed the penalty of 6,367,600 euro.

PS the question is, of course, if the notorious tax evader will ever pay the fine. Place your bet!

He won’t pay the fine they should just close him down and ban him from doing business.
And not just ban him from owning a business but ban him from having any involvement at all in any business except as a paid employee. For life. The penalties must be harsh and they must be seen to be harsh.
after 3-4 years in courts he will pay 10000 eur…
The whole story is about employing lawyers, who later will buy a”coffee” the state’s inspectors.
always, always have in mind that the biggest company in Greece is the ministry of justice…sc
Has any of you wondered how 82000 undeclared income ended up in 6 million euros fines? I will tell you how: the laws of the foreign governors of the country have included absurd punishments for the smallest offences, which we do not even know if they are real as we have not heard the other side. In this way, not only whoever had the shop will be destroyed, but also all his property will be confiscated. The latter is the real reason for the crazy fines. Nothing different than the Nazi practice of shooting 10 Greeks for every soldier shot by the resistance in the war.
Don’t forget that the tax collectors are not employed by the Greek state anymore but by the occupation forces.
The Jean Valjean days of Les Misérables are back again with a vengeance. So, spare us the cheap “harsh penalties” propaganda please!
According to greekreporter data shows that for a self-employed person in Greece, 82 out of every 100 euros goes towards taxes and contribution payments. Understandable that on large scale no official receipts are issued.
hads this news two. no data thoughsaid by Mira nda Xafa, although more or less thue
I don’t ask any more for a receipt in my country and wouldn’t in Greece either. The truth is that most governments today simply don’t deserve it. When 92% of the so-called “bailouts” go to the local economy and not to the foreign bankers then they can start giving out receipts.
