Nut-size hail falls after the heat wave in Evros (videos)

Extreme weather and extreme weather change. From heat wave to …rainstorm and hail.

Hail in the size of walnut fell in the north of Evros Prefecture  in north-east Greece near the borders to Turkey.

Speaking to Athens News Agency, the president of the Federation of Rural Associations of Evros, Giannis Margaritis said that the hail fell for quiet a long time destroying corps of sunflower, cotton and wheat in the villages of  Fylakio, Riza, Spilaio, Komara, Elia and Kastanies.

The farmers now awaiting for ministry inspectors to decide whether they are eligible for compensation.

The phenomenon, unexpected for the month of July,  reportedly caused damages also to cars.
