Wild boars and their piglets wander around in North Athens (video)

Several wild boars have been spotted wandering around in the streets and outside homes  in the suburb of Ekali in North Athens. According to locals, the pack consists of up to 14 animals, among them, there are boar families with young piglets.

The wild boars normally come out of the woods early morning or late afternoon seeking for food, locals say and add that this is normal as they live in an area with lots of green.

Locals are excited and everyone has to tell a story about the four-legged guests. A woman told Alpha TV  the boars “come when they hear the water, when I water the garden or wash the yard.” She added they wander up and down in front of her house at 1 o click in the morning. A man knew to say that his daughter saw piglets laying down on the street together with their parents.

Residents have captured the wild boars with their cameras and mobile phones. Initially there were two animals, now there are between 10 and 14.

The most obvious suggestion is that the wild boars have moved from Mt Parnitha to the urban area called “Narkissos.”

“The only thing that scares them are the dogs,” the mayor of Ekali told media adding the municipality is in contact with the Forestry Department in order to have the boars back to the mountain.

“We don’t want to kill them, we want to send them back to the forest,” the mayor said.

Locals also want to see the boars back to the forest, fearing an accident with a car.

Meanwhile, in Menidi, also in the foothills of Parnitha in West Athens, a deer sought food and water in the yard of a home and made a new …friend. The child told the reporter, he was already seen deer in the area, one to two times.

PS I was impressed that the adult and young boars know that they have to cross the road quickly 🙂
