Lightning kills shepherd and motorcyclist in Northern Greece

Lightning during heavy thunderstorms in Northern Greece reportedly killed two men over the weekend. A 22-year-old shepherd in Kozani and a 58-year-old motorcyclist on Egnatia Highway died on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

The shepherd was found by another shepherd on Saturday night. The 22-year-old of Albanian origin was working near the settlement Aitoliko by Kozani in West Macedonia.

The second victim was driving on Egnatia Highway near the Volvi exit close to Thessaloniki around 6 o’ click in the afternoon on Sunday. He was hit by a lightning. The motorcycle turned over. An ambulance brought him to hospital where doctors could only confirm his death.

Autopsies are to be conducted in both bodies. According to authorities, both men were most likely hit by lightning.

On May 27, a lightning hit an intercity bus on the national road by Monastiraki, North-East Greece.  thanks to the immediate reflexes of the driver, the bus was evacuated, before burned to the ground.
