Islamic Mosque in Athens vandalized with slogans and symbols

It has not opened its gates yet, however, the Islamic Mosque in Athens has been targeted by vandals. The Greek Helsinki Monitor is suing the Greek police that is supposed to safeguard the mosque on 24-hour basis.

The vandals have sprayed slogans against Islam on the walls and the outer door of the mosque and have even installed a wooden cross.

According to information of the Racist Crimes Watch, the slogans have been sprayed seven times recently and have been “attributed to faithful Christians.”

However, in one case, the slogans were insulting and abusive, “which is unusual fro believers.” there is suggestions that these slogan were written by “extreme, non-religious groups.

At the same time, a reasonable question arises about the vandalism as the facility is safeguard by police officers on 24-hour basis.

The Greek Helsinki Monitor filed a lawsuit against “unknown perpetrators” and the Greek police.

The mosque was supposed to be inaugurated beginning of June. However, the process has been postponed for September.
