Stormy winds up to 8 Beaufort and very high risk of wildfires

Stormy summer winds, the meltemia, increase the risk of wild fires in Greece. According to a weather warning issued by Greece’s National Meteorological Service EMY, North winds will be blowing with intensity of 7 and 8 Beaufort on Wednesday, June 26, 2019.

Affected are areas in the North-East, Central and South-West Aegean Sea and the South Evian Gulf.

Passengers planning to travel by sea should contact local port authorities and travel agents as the stormy winds may disrupt sea traffic.

Winds in Attica and Athens will be blowing with intensity of up to 5 and temporarily up to 6 Beaufort.

High temperatures increase the risk of wild fires especially in the regions affected by the stormy winds.

The Municipality of Athens remains on high alert also on Wednesday due to the very high risk of wildfires. Preventive measures are in effect  also today.
