US biologist Dr Suzanne Eaton missing in Chania, Crete – Silver Alert

US molecular biologist, Dr Suzanne Eaton, has been missing from Kolymbari, Chania, on the island of Crete, where she was attending a conference. The 60-year-old woman was last seen at the premises of the Orthodox Academy in Kolymbari, around lunchtime on Tuesday, July 2rd 2019, local media report.

Her relatives appeal to public for any information, while the Greek service for missing people Silver Alert has issued a relevant press release.

A wide-scale Search and Rescue operation was launched as soon as police was informed that Dr Suzanne Eaton went missing.

According to media, police was informed on the early hours of Thursday.

Firemen, police officers volunteers, rescuers with dogs, coast guard boats, helicopters and even a drone have been searching for the missing US scientist on land and in the sea.


Authorities consider as highly unlikely that Eaton went for a swim.

According to her colleagues and conference attendees, she was last seen playing the piano around lunch time, her relatives believe she went missing on Tuesday afternoon.



Speaking to local media cretapost, her relatives said:

«We know that she was last seen playing the piano, then she was believed to have left for a run before a 6pm meeting. Her running shoes were missing from her room, though the room still had her phone and passport. Here is the main info we have:
Please help in any way possible.»

Dr Suzanne Eaton was working at Max Planck Institute in Dresden, Germany.

With posts on social media, Eaton’s relatives seek for any help from the public.

The Search and Rescue operation continues on Friday, with no positive outcome so far, by Friday noon.
