Two earthquakes 4.3R and 4.4R rattle the island of Samos

An earthquake measuring 4.3 on the Richer scale rattled the island of Samos and the neighboring areas on Friday.

The earthquake occurred at 6:38 p.m. Friday in the sea area 24 km south of Samos and in a focal depth of 15 km.

It was felt on the Greek islands and the west coast of neighboring Turkey.

No injuries or damages were reported.

Seismologists seem reassuring and said that they are closely monitoring the phenomenon as the area is known for its seismic activity.

The earthquake of 4.5 R was followed by two aftershocks of 3.3 R ad 2.8 R.

Two hours later, a 4.4 R stroke again south of Samos.
Τhe tremor epicenter was located 22 km South of the island and had a focal depth of 10 km.

  1. It’s actually excellent news that we are getting so many smaller tremors at the moment. They are gently relieving the stresses that build up in the subduction zone beneath us and thus making a catastrophically large earthquake in the future much less of a probability.
