Seven people lost their lives within one week following complications of a flu infection, increasing the death toll to eight, Greece’s National Public Health Agency (EODY) said on Thursday. At the same time, 24 people are hospitalized in Intensive Care Units

Flu infections are expected to increase in the coming weeks, the Agency warns, urging citizens to receive vaccination.

As January 15, 2020, twenty-four (24) serious cases of laboratory confirmed influenza have been treated in an Intensive Care Units. Eight (8) people died, the majority of them had other health issues.

It should be noted that the majority of ICU patients are suffering from influenza A, which is covered by this year’s vaccine.

The vast majority of those infected were not vaccinated.

EODY’s scientific staff points out that the disease activity will continue in the country for the coming weeks, with increased circulation of the virus as it does every year until mid-March.

As a result, serious cases of flu infections are expected to continue.
