The Greek Asylum Service of the Migration Ministry announced it will not receive applicants at its mainland and island offices and will not provide services to the public from today (March 13) until April 10, in order to protect public health and limit the further spread of coronavirus.
All administrative services are therefore suspended – including registrations, interviews and appeals – while asylum applicants’ cards and residence permits that are due to expire within the period of closure will remain valid.
Further announcements will soon be published on the Greek Asylum Service website at http://asylo.gov.gr/
Meanwhile, Minister of Migration and Asylum Notis Mitarachi on Friday visited the refugee reception and identification center at Malakassa, north of Athens, where he inspected construction work that will convert the existing site to a controlled facility and add a new, closed facility.
He said that transfer of those who arrived at the islands after March 1, is to begin over the weekend. They will be relocated to Malakasa and Serres closed facilities and later be deported.
