Meteorologists in Greece forecast a mini heat wave with temperatures to reach up to 38 and 39 degrees Celsius. The warm air masses are coming from Africa together with strong south winds and Sahara dust. It will be the first heat wave of the year.
According to National Observatory of Athens, starting on temperatures would rise above the seasonal 35°C in Central Greece and southern parts of the country like eastern Peloponnese and Crete.
Temperature rise will start on Monday, May 11, with the peak of the heat wave to be on Tuesday, May 12, with up to 38° C. On Wednesday, May 13, temperature will be at seasonal level with the exception of northern Crete (38° C.)
The next wave is forecast for Thursday, May 14, with temperate expected to rise up to 39° C in Central Greece.

While Greece and the European south will be “boiling”, cold air masses will cause temperatures to plunge in northern Europe.
