No delays in the upgrade of F-16 fighter jets, says Greece’s Air Force

The General Staff of the Greek Air Force has dismissed recent media reports of snags and delays in the upgrade of its F-16 fighter jets fleet.

Work to date is “in line with the scheduled time frame,” the Air Force said in a statement issued on Wednesday.

The US-made aircraft will be upgraded to the advanced Viper class by 2027, the statement said further.

The program will last around 8 years with the last aircraft deliveries scheduled in 2027.

The program will be carried out by Hellenic Aerospace (EAV).

Works on the first F-16 that will function as sample model of the upgrade have started started in January 2020 in the facilities of EAV and continue within the scheduled roadmap without deviations, the statement added.

According to recent media reports, the total cost of the 85 F-16 upgrade program is estimated to reach $1.5 billion.
