Corfu: Police arrests the “Beast of Kavos” after he falls into ravine (video)

Police on the island of Corfu has arrested late on Saturday the 47-year-old notorious Greek serial rapist, dubbed the “Beast of Kavos.” The man was arrested following a three-hour rescue operation after he fell into deep ravine trying to evade police.

Police arrived in Lefkimi in the south of Corfu on Saturday after a tip of by a local who had recognized him. The rapist had reportedly left his hideout and went to the shore for a swim.

A strong police force was deployed in the area. The man tried to escape police and fell some 30 meters into a steep ravine.The rescue operation lasted some 3 hours.

He suffered multiple fractures and several injuries.

He was ultimately transferred to the hospital of the capital of Corfu.

The man was jailed in 2012 to 53 years imprisonment for the rape of six women, among them British tourists. He was given early release in August 2019.

Beginning of the month, an Albanian woman, accused him of having kidnapped and repeatedly raped her. The alleged victim, who had been reported missing two days earlier, was found two weeks ago in a cave where the man held her and from which she managed to escape. Her partner who reported her disappearance told police that the night before they had met the convicted rapist.

Against him there was an arrest warrant due to the latest rape allegations and one for violating the terms of his realy release.

The man was hiding in Agios Gordios area, in a makeshift hideout.

Among the items the police confiscated is a rifle, a power bank to charge mobile phones, a sleeping bag and several other items to survive outdoors.

The “Beast of Kavos” remains in the hospital guarded by police.

  1. It seems the saying – ‘A leopard never changes its spots’, applies to serial rapists like this. Some people will ALWAYS remain a menace to others, or the environment, despite the punishment allowed under the Human Rights Legislation. Castration would be the only safe recourse here. Keeping them in prison just costs money and does nothing to reform their behaviour.
