Greece opens elementary schools, pre-schools, kindergartens June 1-26

Primary education schools, pre-schools and kindergartens will open again on June 1, government spokesman Stelios Petsas announced on Sunday evening. The decision was taken by the Prime Minister following recommendations by the country’s health experts monitoring the course of the pandemic.

Primary schools and kindergartens, special education units of all levels, and nurseries will reopen on Monday, June 1.

Education Minister Niki Kerameos said on Monday that the schools will remain open until June 26.

Pupils will attend classes in rotation, according to the same scheme applied for Gymnasiums and Lyceums.

There will be up to 15 pupils in every classroom, and distance of 1.5 meter should be kept. The use of mask is optional and classrooms will be cleaned twice per day, the Minister clarified.

After the summer break, elementary schools are reportedly expected to open again on September 1.

Schools of all levels of education were shut down on March 6 due to the coronavirus outbreak.
