Coronavirus infections in Greece recorded a new jump in Tuesday, with 52 new confirmed cases announced by the health authorities. With the daily growth at 1.4%, the number of total infections has reached 4,279. Authorities announced also the death of one more Covid-19 patient. Death toll increased to 203.
The latest victim is a 63-year-old priest from Morsini in Xanthis, north-eastern Greece. The man had underlying health problems and was reportedly hospitalized in Alexandroupolis.
The coronavirus is spreading in Greece, the mandatory use of masks in almost all enclosed public places returns on Wednesday, July 29, and the epidemiologists daily express their concerns on the course of the pandemic in the country, especially in the urban centers.
Currently the active cases are 429, head of Civil Protection Nikos Hardalias. said earlier on Tuesday. 596 people are close contacts of the active cases in self-isolation.
66 active cases are in Thessaloniki, 145 in Attica.
Of the 145 active cases in Attica, 36 are hospitalized and 109 people in self-isolation. In Thessaloniki, of the 66 active cases, 8 are hospitalized and 58 in self-isolation.

The new 52 new cases on Monday have been detected:
7 at the entry points in Greece.
4 more travellers voluntarily sought laboratories for Covid-19 test in the country after they developed some symptoms. They were tested positive.
Attica tops again the list with 14 new confirmed cases.
The remaining new cases are:
9 in Thessaloniki
4 in Kavala, in Achaia and on the island of Lesvos.
2 in Magnisia and in Imathia
Each one (1) is in Halkidiki and in Evia
On the island of Lesvos four members of a family in Plomari were tested positive. The parents had recently visited Georgia and were tested “negative” upon their arrival at the airport on July 13. A few days later, one of them developed fever, both were tested again and this time the test was positive. Infected is also the 10-year-old son of the couple as well as a close relative of the husband.
The Health Center of Plomari and the cafeteria where the relative works have been shut down, local media report.

According to the Health Ministry statement on Tuesday, 54.5% of the total of infections affect men.
Of the total coronavirus cases, 1,195 (27.9%) are related to travel abroad, 2,139 (50%) are related to an already known case. The rest are cases not related to travel or another known case or are still under investigation.
Average age of the infected in 49 with age range between 0 and 102.
Number of patients intubated in ICUs are 8. Among them are two women. The average age of the intubated patients has decreased to 56 from 58 until Monday. 75% of the intubated patients have underlying health issues or are over 70 years old.
127 patients have been discharged from the ICUs since the beginning of the outbreak.
Number of coronavirus-related deaths increased to 203.
Among the deceased were 66 women. The average age of the deceased was 76 with range age between 35 and 102.
96% had underlying health issues and/or were over 70 years old.
Tests
According to the Health Ministry on Friday, a total of 457,540 tests have been conducted since beginning of the year, 6,395 (1.4%) are positive. The data include several tests conducted on a single patient, as well.
Head of Civil Protection Nikos Hardalias announced earlier on Tuesday the number of tests conducted at the Greek entry points and the number of “imported” cases for the time period July 1-26, 2020.
