A boat that has been missing since last Friday was found at a beach of Lefkada on Wednesday. The speed boat was found by bathers and it was abandoned at a small beach west of the popular Kathisma beach.
The four passengers of the boat are still missing.
An investigation carried out by Kefalonia port authority revealed that the documents a foreign national showed to lease the boat were fake.
A 30-year-old tourist and three other men had leased the boat to make a one-day tour of the island and ought to have returned to Argostoli late on Friday according to the leasing contract.
The owner of the 4.8m boat informed the authorities that they did not return and a search and rescue operation was launched immediately by a Kefalonia coast guard patrol boat, a Frontex vessel, five private boats and two police cars.
Investigation continues.
