Authorities have shut down two famous beach bars on the island of Mykonos on Tuesday night after at least 10 staff members were tested positive for coronavirus.
The decision to temporarily suspend the operation of Nammos and Scorpios on Paraga beach until Friday was announced by the Secretary General of Civil Protection Vassilis Papageorgiou following the results of tests conducted over the weekend, ekathimerini reports.
According to state news agency amna, the cases were identified after a surprise check carried out by the General Secretary of the Civil Protection who landed for this purpose on Myrkonos last Saturday.
The Civil Protection team, in collaboration with the Police and the National Transparency Authority team, tested the staff of the two beach bars, and the first results came out on Tuesday night.
The closure decision was taken immediately and the beach bars were closed from 22.00 Tuesday night until 07.00 on Friday morning, Sept 9, 2020.
Civil Protection staff are working to trace contacts of people who tested positive.
The closure will be reviewed on Friday.
Next to Zakynthos and Halkidiki, Mykonos is one of the tourist destinations for which the Civil Protection imposed restrictive measures due to the spread of coronavirus since August 19, 2020.
