In the Eastern Mediterranean “they want to box us in on our shores with an island of 10 sq.km; this cannot happen.,” Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Monday.
“In order to support our independence we have the opportunity to use both our diplomacy and our military power. That is why they take us into account. In the last days in the Aegean and the Eastern Mediterranean they are trying to create fait accompli accomplishments. (…) When the time comes I hope they do not pay a heavy price,” he threatened Greece – gain and for one more time.
He added that disrespectful actions carried out against Turkey only serve to strengthen its determination.
“Those who try to act with fait accompli by disregarding Turkey’s lawful rights in the Eastern Mediterranean and Aegean will eventually accept the facts,” he said.
“Every political, diplomatic or military mistake or disrespectful act carried out against our country, instead of turning us from our path, reinforces our determination,” he said.
Referring to Greece, he said that those who are struggling with their inadequate military power instead of sitting at the negotiating table with Ankara should at least examine Turkey’s diplomatic efforts and military operations in the last four years.
Finally Erdogan addressed the European countries – call it: France – urging them to follow a consistent policy in the Eastern Mediterranean, after they failed to do so in Cyprus, Syria and Libya.
PS my cat refused to comment on Erdogan’s statement, I meant I heard her mumbling something like “populist moron who discovers now the map of his own country”, grabbed the remote control and started zapping from one silly TV series to the next one.
