Greece’s epidemiological burden “very low” to “medium,” says European Disease Center

The SARS-Cov-2 epidemiological burden in most of Greece continues to be at very low to medium levels, according to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control’s (ECDC) assessment of the pandemic’s levels in Europe on Friday.

Specifically, southern Greece and Eastern Macedonia and Thrace are at very low risk.  The region of Attica and the rest of Central Greece, Macedonia and Epirus are classified as medium risk while some areas of Central Macedonia have been put in a high-risk category.

Unlike Greece, the vast majority of European countries are now classed as having high epidemiological risk, barring some countries of central and northern Europe, which are classed as medium risk the ECDC data showed.

As of 23 October 2020, 205 986 deaths have been reported in the EU/EEA and the UK: United Kingdom (44 347), Italy (36 968), Spain (34 521), France (34 210), Belgium (10 588), Germany (9 954), Netherlands (6 909), Romania (6 163), Sweden (5 930), Poland (4 019), Portugal (2 245), Ireland (1 871), Czechia (1 845), Hungary (1 352), Bulgaria (1 064), Austria (957), Denmark (694), Greece (549), Croatia (406), Finland (355), Norway (279), Slovenia (174), Luxembourg (140), Lithuania (125), Slovakia (115), Estonia (71), Latvia (49), Malta (49), Cyprus (25), Iceland (11) and Liechtenstein (1).

Meanwhile, Greece has placed 2 regional units in western Macedonia, in lockdown and imposed night curfew and mandatory use of mask in- and outdoors in another 16 regional units.
