Coronavirus outbreak in refugee camp VIAL on the island of Chios

Forty-seven people have been tested positive to coronavirus at the refugee reception and identification center VIAL on the island of Chios in the last two days, the National Public Health Organisation EODY said on Friday. The infected are refugees and workers at the camp.

Some 767 tests were carried out in the camp on Thursday and Friday.

Among the infected is one employee of  VIAL.

Most of the patients are reportedly asymptomatic .

Quarantine is imposed until November 4, however it is social distancing in the overcrowded camp is hardly possible.

According to local media, it is possible that another structure in Lefkonia may be used for the protection of the people.

Health teams of EODY are expected to remain on the island until the beginning of the week to carry out more Covid-19 tests.
