Three wildfires fronts have been raging on the island of Crete on Monday in the regions of Ierapetra, Viannos and Malevizi.
One fire broke out near the Bramiana Dam in Ierapetra early on Monday afternoon. Meanwhile the fire is on decline and there is no longer a large active front, however, resurgences that occur in various places are making it difficult to finally extinguish the fire, local media radiolasithi.gr reported.
According to the Ierapetra Fire Department, the blaze is not yet under full control.
It is recalled that for the fire in Bramiana, emergency line <112> was activated earlier with a message to the residents of the area to move away towards Ierapetra.
Viannos and Malevizi: Two more active fronts
The pressure on the fire brigades remains extremely high, as two more fires are in progress at the same time as Ierapetra.
In the Afrati Viannos area, a fire in a rural area is occupying 18 firefighters with a team on foot, 5 vehicles and 1 water-dropping helicopter, with the assistance of water tankers from the local authorities.
In Voulismeno Aloni of the Municipality of Malevizi, 30 firefighters with a team on foot, 9 vehicles and 1 helicopter are operating with the assistance of water tankers from the Region of Crete.
On both fronts, the conditions are described as particularly difficult due to the strong winds.
+++Later in the afternoon another wildfire broke out in Gazi by Herakleio while winds are blowing with intensity of 7 Beaufort.
In the wildfire risk forecast of the Civil Protection, Crete was one of the regions at very high risk (Category 4).
