US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo sent a letter to Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias, expressing the support of the trump administration for Greece’s positions and condemning the actions of Turkey.
In his letter, Pompeo underlined that the US “disapproves” the ongoing Turkish surveys for hydrocarbons in areas where Greece has potential jurisdiction. He added that these unilateral actions only succeed in increasing tensions in the region, and stressed that threats, intimidation and coercion efforts, as well as military activities, will not resolve tensions in the Eastern Mediterranean.
The US Secretary of State also praised the position of Greece, which, as he notes, wants the settlement of disputes through dialogue and always based on international law, noting that our country continues to take all necessary measures to avoid a “hot incident.”
Pompeo concluded his letter writing that the United States, like Greece, wants stability and prosperity in the Eastern Mediterranean, where cooperation will always be developed based on international law.
Pompeo’s letter was a response to a letter by Dendias who had listed the latest illegal and provocative actions by Turkey.
The Us Secretary of State responded to Dendias in just a few days, something that was welcomed by the Greek diplomacy.
The letter coincidentally arrived one day before the elections in USA. A last effort to win the votes of Diaspora Greeks?
Trump’s campaigners seeking support by Diaspora Greeks have wrote down a long list of achievements President Donald Trump did for Greece.
Campaigners write among others, that the United States has been a stalwart ally and supporter of Greece since its independence in 1821.
“The U.S. and Greece have fought side by side in defense of freedom and liberty in multiple wars against tyranny and communism, including World War I, World War II, and the Cold War.”
Listing Trump’s achievements in the 4 years of his presidency, campaigners write among others in the chapter National Security:
• Both President Trump and Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis have asserted that US-Greece Relations is
“the best it ever was” under Trump Administration.
• President Trump is the first president in modern history to shift US foreign policy to favor Greece as the
most strategic and reliable ally in the Eastern Mediterranean.
However, no matter what the achievements, I hear that diaspora Greeks are disappointed that Trump did not issue a statement about the devastating earthquake on Samos last week, as democratic rival Joe Biden did.
Jill and I send our prayers to the people of Greece and Turkey following today’s earthquake. We’re grateful for the brave rescuers saving others, and for the governments of Greece and Turkey putting aside their differences to support each other.

The US state Department and the National Security adviser sent their condolences to Greek and Turkey but not Donald Trump, who usually writes dozens of posts on Twitter each and every day.
PS would be a reason for Diaspora Greeks to not vote Trump? No idea.

As we all know Trump always keeps his campaign promises, never goes back on anything, right?
As always, all talk and no action! The Trump administration could easily put pressure on Mr Erdogan but does not think it is important enough! I pray that “Goldielocks” looses this election, USA and the world would become a better place then!
One only has to look at the people that Trump expressed admiration for during his 4 years in office: Jung-Un, Bolsonaro, Duterte, Putin, Erdogan. No WAY is he going to put pressure on anything. He wishes that he were like these “strong, powerful men”. I remember him saying that he was impressed that people were lining the route that he and Kim took when he visited and how they were smiling and waving. Guess he couldn’t see the guns pointed at their back.
Would love to say that he’ll be gone gone gone on November 3rd, but stranger things have happened….
