Greece’s President adopts rescue kitten from Animal Welfare Karpathos

Greece got a “First Kitten”. The President of the Hellenic Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, officially adopted a rescued kitten by Animal Welfare Karpathos, named Calypso. The president of Animal Welfare Karpathos, Sophia Hiras- Micros had the honor of meeting with the President at the Presidential Hall in Athens, Greece where she safely delivered Calypso.

The President, Mrs. Sakellaropoulou, had recently visited the island of Karpathos for the 76th celebration of the island’s independence. As part of her visit she had met with two of the representatives of the organization, Mrs. Sophia Hiras – Micros and Dr. Anna Katogiritis, on World Animal Day (October 4th, 2020). During that visit, the President stated that animals are sentient beings who should be respected by all of us, thus sending a strong message for animal welfare, throughout the country. The President, also, had the opportunity to meet little Calypso during that meeting and expressed her interest in adopting her.

We are confident that Calypso, who was rescued from the mountains of Karpathos and travelled to the Presidential Hall in Athens, will receive excellent care and love by our beloved President, Mrs. Sakellaropoulou, the Animal Welfare said in a statement submitted to KTG.
