The Ministry of Development and Investment officially announced the opening of stores selling purely seasonal Christmas item as from Monday, December 7, 2020. Supermarkets will be allowed to sell Christmas items as well.
Details for the opening hours and the way of operation of these stores will be reportedly announced tomorrow, Friday, by the General Secretary of Trade and Consumer Protection, Panagiotis Stampoulidis.
Owners of such stores have repeatedly said that if they do not open in time, then the season is over and will be economically destroyed.
Extension of Lockdown
Everything points out that the lockdown will be extended for one more week, that is until December 14.
This is expected to be announced later today by government spokesman Stelios Petsas.
Petsas is also expected to make reference to the operation of schools, primary, gymnasiums and lyceums.
With the epidemiological data of the last few days, it is considered almost unlikely that the opening of the schools will be announced next week.
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said on Wednesday that schools will open again when epidemiologists recommend it.
Many epidemiologists recommend that opening of schools in the new year.
It is said that the problem especially for primary schools and kindergartens lies with parents and grandparents accompanying the pupils to and from school. As for secondary education, the students are blamed for having an active social life and not obeying the protection measures.
