Greece Warning – Extreme Weather Phenomena Dec 11-14

Greece’s National Meteorological Service issued a new weather warning due to a weather deterioration and “extreme weather phenomena” in the East and South parts of the country.

According to EMY, the weather deterioration is expected to start in the West on the late afternoon hours of Friday, December 11, 2020.

Forecast are heavy rainfall and thunderstorms, accompanied by stormy winds in the seas and possible hail-storms locally.

EMY warns of “local dangerous weather phenomena in the eastern and south parts of the country from Sunday afternoon (Dec13) until Monday afternoon (Dec 14.)”

Friday, Dec 11

Late afternoon: Ioanian silands, Epirus, West Sterea.

As of evening: Peloponnese and Attica in the night to Saturday.

Gradual weakening from North-West in the early morning hours of Saturday.

Saturday De 12

Eastern Macedonia, Thrace, islands of eastern Aegean Sea, intermittently Crete and as of afternoon the Dodecanese.

Sunday, Dec 13

Crete, Dodecanese, gradually the Cyclades, the islanbd of eastern Aegean Sea, the central and south parts of mainland.

Monday, Dec 14

Eastern Greece and particularly Central Macedonia, Thessally, the SPorades islands, eastern Sterea, Evia, Agean islands and the Dodecanese.

Weakening of the phenomena forecast as of the afternoon hours.

Winds

Stormy south winds 7-8 Beaufort in the Ionian Sea on Dec 11, in the Aegean Sea on Dec 12-13.

North winds with intensity of 8 Beaufort in the Ionian Sea and the North Aegean on Dec 14.
