EU leaders to discuss Greek PM’s ” vaccination certificate” proposal

European Union leaders will discuss the proposal by Greek Prime Minister for a “vaccination certificate” at the next European Council, Commission spokesman Stefan de Keersmaecker said on Tuesday. for a coronavirus “vaccination certificate” that would help ease travel among member-states, as put forward by Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

In a letter to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis proposed a “vaccination certificate” in order to facilitate traveling among member states but also with third countries.

He proposed a “digital standardized certificate” confirming that a person has been successfully vaccinated against the Covid-19.

Together with the letter, Mitsotakis attached a draft certificate created by Greek authorities that could serve as a starting point for a discussion on such an initiative.

Mitsotakis said that while Greece will not make “vaccination compulsory or a pre-requisite for travel, persons who have been vaccinated should be free to travel.”

He added that such a move would also “provide a positive incentive” for citizens to be vaccinated.

  1. That’s right EU commission, you have nice, long discussions about the idea, no one minds waiting. After all it’s only to help freedom of movement and cross border travel, nothing important really.
It would be far better just for Greece to go it alone on this matter, just issue a certificate after a person has the second jab

  2. It is good to have a EU-certificate so that there will be less frauds. If everyone knows how it looks no one can sneak their way through the border. But I agree, it should be created asap!

totally horrible idea ! it infringes freedom of choice of health care

  4. Hi,
there is allready an international vaccination certificate out there… a yellow booklet given by the WHO in Germany called vaccination book, where all vaccinations are recorded…. didn`t you have this in greece too?
Comparing the form with the official health carnet, it is just the same… only the name and the signiture of the doctor who gave you the jab and informed you about the risks and have checked you for suitability for vaccination, is missing on the greek proposal…

When it comes to more freedom, you have to be carfull its not granted, that vaccinated people do not spread the virus nevertheless..and a last one

When it comes to speed, we have to hurry up….because the the guaranteed immunity lasts minimum 3 months maybe longer, maybe not… who knows (according to the boss of Biontech)
