Greece’s health authorities announced on Sunday, 334 new coronavirus cases and 24 more deaths in the last 24 hours. The number of Covid-19 patients intubated in hospitals across the country has decreased further to 288.
Death toll has reached 5,646 and the total cases stand at 151,980.
Due to the weekend, the number of testing has significantly decreased.
Meanwhile, the number of cases with mutation strains of Covid-19 has increased to 32 from 26 a few days ago.
According to media, 3 of those infection cases have been detected at the entrance gates, the rest 29 spread across the country. The majority of them in in Athens (17) and in Crete (8)
Professor for infectious diseases and member of the health committee of the Health Ministry Charalampos Gogos told Alpha TV on Sunday that all of the cases are of the “British mutation.”
Former PM and leader of main opposition party, Alexis Tsipras was advised to self-isolation at home after one of his two sons was tested positive to Covid-19. Tsipras, his partner and the other son were tested negative. Worth noting that Tsipras had already received both vaccine doses, however, doctors advised him to isolation as he not developed immunity yet, Star TV reported.
On Friday Greece extended lockdown restrictions for one more week, as the country prepares to reopen the secondary education on February 1.
At the same time, the Civil Aviation Authority extended travel restrictions for international flight passengers incl. non-EU citizens until February 8.

According to the official daily bulletin on Saturday, 5837(3.8%) of the total coronavirus cases are related to travel abroad and 469292 (63.7%) are related to already known infection case.
The remaining infections are without known source.
52.1% of the infected are men.
The number of intubated patients in ICUs stands at 288 from 292 a day earlier. Their average age is 68, among them are 204(70.8%) men. 85.9% have underlying health problems or are aged over 70.
1,068 people have been discharged from ICUs since the start of the pandemic in Greece.
Another 24 deaths in the last 24 hours increased death toll to 5646. Of the deceased 3330(59.0%) were men. The average age of the deceased was 79 and 95.4% of them had an underlying condition or/and was over 70 years old.
