For fourth consecutive day, new coronavirus cases in Greece remain at four-digit level . Authorities announced on Friday, 1,195 new cases in the last 24 hours and another 19 deaths. The number of Covid-19 patients intubated in hospitals across the country stands at 246, three more than a day earlier.
Death toll has reached 5,922 and the total cases stand at 162,130.
Epidemiologists and government officials have been holding a marathon meeting on Friday with the aim to set a new, additional series of restrictions to contain the spread of the virus.
The two sides disagree on the measures regarding the retail, the operation of schools and stricter movement restrictions for Athens and Attica.
The Live Briefing where the new measures were to be announced at 6 p.m. is postponed …until the two side agree.
Another 23 UK mutations
In 61 samples from Jan 18-31, 2021, a total of 23 were detected positive to the UK mutation VOC 202012/01 (Lineage B.1.1.7)
12 were detected in Thessaloniki (4 in community, 8 in hospitals)
6 in Halkidiki (5 in community, 1 in hospital)
1 in Pieria (in community)
4 at Greece’s entrance gates.
So far, a total of 228 samples have been reportedly tested positive to B.1.1.7 and 1 to South African mutation B.1.351

According to the official daily bulletin 6010 (3.7%) of the total coronavirus cases are related to travel abroad and 51438 (62.9%) are related to already known infection case.
The remaining infections are without known source.
51.9% of the infected are men.
The number of intubated patients in ICUs stands at 246 from 249 a day earlier. Their average age is 70, among them are 179(72.8%) men. 86.6% have underlying health problems or are aged over 70.
1,155 people have been discharged from ICUs since the start of the pandemic in Greece.
Another 19 deaths in the last 24 hours increased death toll to 5922. Of the deceased 3485(58.8%) were men. The average age of the deceased was 79 and 95.5% of them had an underlying condition or/and was over 70 years old.
