Greece: 1269 new coronavirus cases, 36 more deaths, intubations rise to 391

The end of February finds Greece in the fourth month of nationwide lockdown with increasing number of infections, death toll to  have surpassed 6,500 and hospitals in Athens and Attica reaching 90% of their capacity. On Sunday, health authorities announced 1269 new coronavirus cases by much fewer tests due to weekend. Another 36 deaths in the last 24 hours. The number of Covid-19 patients in intubation has increased to 391.

Death toll has reached 6,504 and the total cases stand at 191,100.

The Civil Protection announced on Saturday evening total lockdown for the town of Malesina, Fthiotida, after Covid-19 tests earlier showed positivity of 10.4% and 40 new infections were confirmed. Citizens are allowed to exit their homes only for health reasons, supplies and pet walking. The measure is in force Feb 28-March 8, 2021

Friday evening the hard lockdown in Attica extended until March 8, 202, and 10 more regional units and municipalities were placed in tougher restrictions due to infections increase.

According to the official bulletin on Sunday, based on the confirmed cases on the last 7 days, 53 are related to travel abroad and 2671 are related to already known cases.

The released data do not allow any more the clues about the rate of infections without known source of contamination.

51.8% of the infected are men.

The number of intubated patients in ICUs stands at 391 from 379 a day earlier. Their average age is 70, among them 70.6% are men. 84.4% have underlying health problems and/or are aged over 70.

New admission of Covid-19 patients to hospitals are 291 (daily change -15.90%). Average number of admission in 7 days: 290.

Average age of infected is 44 ( age range 0.2-105).

1341 people have been discharged from ICUs since the start of the pandemic in Greece.

Another 36 deaths in the last 24 hours increased death toll to 6,504. The average age of the deceased was 79 (age range  16-103). and 95.7% had underlying health problem and/or was over 70 years old.

Rolling weekly average cases at 1630 from 1106 last week.

PRC Tests in last 24 hours: 16,718 (Positivity 7.59%)

Rapid tests last 24 hours: 9,612

Positivity PCR+Rapid tests: 4.82%

Rt: 0.95 ( 0.99 previous week)

Daily growth at +0.7%

Of the 1269 new coronavirus cases, 1 were detected at the country’s entry points.

1 of the new cases were detected at entry points, and another 3 travelers were already in the country.

  1. I am in the UK and here our numbers are getting much lower now, I think there must be some people in Greece who are not taking the rules seriously enough! More-so because you have been in lockdown longer than we have, I know its not easy because I have been indoors most of the time since it all began last year. I have started a new hobby or I would be stir crazy. In the UK they trained members of the public how to give the vaccination, pharmacy’s as well as the Dr’s surgeries give people the vaccination, that’s why the vaccination process has gone quite fast, maybe Greece needs to do the same. I hope you’re numbers start to come down soon too. Stay safe everyone. 🙏

  2. Dont forget that you brits have, in some way, got hold of a lot more vaccin than other states! I just wonder how? No vaccin, no jabs!
