Greece: New coronavirus cases rise to 1,820 in 24 hours; 9 deaths

Daily coronavirus infections in Greece recorded a further spike on Wednesday and health authorities announced 1,820 new cases and 9 deaths in the last 24 hours. The number of intubated Covid-patients in hospitals Intensive Care Units decreased further and stands at 159.

The epidemiologists’ committee is expected to make new recommendations to contain the resurgence of the coronavirus.

According to media, there are thoughts for the use of masks outdoors again.

Attica tops the list of today’s infections with 1,061, followed by Crete with 172 new cases.

There is a spike in the southern suburbs of Athens.

Since the pandemic began, Greece has confirmed 430,960 infections (daily change: +0.4%). In the confirmed cases of the last 7 days, 147 infections are related to travel from abroad and 1636 to other confirmed cases.

Rolling average: 1081 (442 previous week)

51.2% of the infected are men.

There are 9 deaths recorded in the last 24 hours, the total of pandemic victims to 12,763.  Of these, 95.5% had an underlying condition and/or were 70 years old.

A total of 159 Covid-patients – from 168 a day earlier -are on ventilators in hospitals. Their median age is 66 years. 68.6% are men. 88.1% have an underlying condition and/or are aged 70 or more.

2,713 patients have been discharged from ICUs since the pandemic began.

59 Covid-19 patients were admitted to hospital in the last 24 hours (daily change: +22.92%). The average admission of patients with Covid-19 to hospitals over the last 7 days was 45.

The median age of new infections is 43 years (range: 0.2 to 106 years), while the median age of the deceased is 78 (range: 0.2 to 106 years).

Of the 1820 new cases, 6 were detected at the entrance gates of the country and 15 among travelers already in the country.
