The joint ministerial decision earlier on Thursday had a surprise for owners of entertainment venues and citizens: Open-air venues such as bars, clubs and nightclubs will be for vaccinated customers only or for those have recovered from Covif-29.
The customers will have to prove their vaccination or recovery showing the relevant certificate digital or in printed form at the entrance. Venues employees will scan it via the government app Covid Free GR.
Furthermore, customers in such venues will be seated all the time, and not allowed to stand or dance.
Singers and dancers remain on stage and do not intermingle with customers, the ministerial decision ruled.
Up to 10 people per table.
Greece faces a surge of coronavirus infections amid summer vacations and tourism season and the government has decided to exclude unvacinnated citizens from some leisure and entertainment activities.
Indoor spaces of restaurants, bars and other venues are for vaccinated and recovered customers only. Read more details here.
We have since April pursued every possible method to obtain a vaccination. Vaccinations without AMKA are impossible is the message.Local government and KEP cannot provide us with AMKA. The emvolio web site fails to generate a number despite several applications. There is, we are told, a known problem with the site.
So, we continue to be at risk from this virus and now the government is slowly closing our world down for no fault of our own. The solution is theirs, but as yet nothing has been forthcoming. The government needs to resolve this unacceptable situation rather than issue further ultimatums
you can’t access the website from abroad
I’m not abroad, I live in Crete
We accessed the web site in Greek. We live in Crete
Hello, I’m very sorry to hear about that. It must be beyond frustrating.
I’m sure you’ve tried every avenue, but I thought it might be worthwhile checking whether you can register here, get an AFMI and an AMKA (rather than the temporary one). That’s how I was able to get vaccinated here.
All the best!
We have been pursuing a permanent AMKA since February in order to obtain an IKA. All necessary documentation has been provided to our local EFKA office, but we understand there is a backlog. Frustration doesn’t cover it, but I do appreciate your understanding
go to nearest KEP
I’ve already said, I have been to all KEP offices in our area. They do not provide AMKA numbers. They give you the emvolio web site address and send you away
I really feel for you. The frustration and worry about not being able to get vaccinated is beyond belief, and you must be sick of all the ‘knowalls’ who say go to KEP etc etc, when you and many hundreds of us know it is a waste of time.
Greece is now facing an enormous upsurge in cases, which will cause untold damage to the countrys reputation and finances. Isnt it time someone somewhere in the government said ‘enough is enough’ we MUST vaccinate those who wish to be jabbed? NOW is the time to cut all the stupid red tape involved with AMKA numbers, and JUST GET ON WITH VACCINATING ALL WHO WANT IT, open up the doors, and let people come, as they do in England-use volunteers, use the army, use anyone who will help,BUT GET ON WITH IT BEFORE ITS TOO LATE, PLEASE!!!!
Hallo Keith Baker,
Bitte verbreiten Sie keine Fehlmeldungen.
No dancing? In nightclubs?! What would be the point then? Do many people go to nightclubs to sit with their pals and just listen to music that is 60 decibels too loud?
My Greek accountant made the latest application and, although every one has been registered and application number provided, none has generated an AMKA number.
They will have no customers!!Need to stop this obsession with testing etc!
Why the hell can’t we just provide our passport number or pay for a ruddy vaccination rather than having to deal with all this AMKA rubbish, surely the idea is to eliminate the virus so why put obstructions in the way or just make it easy for the impatient like me to obtain an AMKA number, I’m still not quite sure why being vaccinated is the be all and end all if you can still catch the virus and pass it on, can give people a false sense of security whereas the currently un vaccinated like me avoid pretty much everyone and wear a mask at every opportunity
pay for vaccine? that’s a no-no
I think you recognise the problem ktg
I want a vaccination. It can’t be bought. The government wants me to have one. Vaccination is impossible without AMKA
Government policy prevents KEP from issuing me a temporary AMKA
Emvolio.gov.gr is flawed, making the issue of temporary AMKA a lottery
EFKA is overwhelmed. My permanent AMKA application has been ongoing for 6 months. I repeat, I have pursued every possible method, including enlisting the help of the British Vice Consulate. Where do you think the solution lies?
Keith, we took only 4 months to get our pamka number! …..our friends just went to the accountant who checked the data against their application and found that the mother’s maiden name had been spelt differently ……they changed it on the emvilio application and they got pamka the next day! …………worth checking. We still can’t get a certificate printed as we are the problematic ‘9’ pamkas and cannot face the covid crush at kep so will not be going to any clubs for a while …..hey ho. I think greece will be shut down in a few weeks anyway……..shameful management!
welcome to north Africa!
Getting vaccinated is the be all and end all because it massively reduces the chance of serious illness and death which means that hospitals are not overwhelmed…. oh and the benefit that you are not dead too. Those vaccinated who catch it and survive thanks to the vaccine will be even more immune to it in the future meaning that it can’t spread so rapidly. Also a virus out there and spreading rapidly is a virus that has the chance to mutate and change and become even more deadly and even more transmittable.
Just in case there are some people who have missed the pitiful stages of mismanagement of SARS-CoV2 by all governments of the world (plus the useless WHO), here is a recapof just the beginning of this sorry tale.
Stage 1, Feb 2020: the virus is transmitted by touch. YOU MUST ALL WEAR GLOVES, EVERYTHING MUST BE STERILIZED FROM SUPERMARKETS. THE STREETS MUST BE CLEANED WITH BLEACH. DON’T USE CASH, PLASTIC CARDS ARE MUCH SAFER. DO NOT USE MASKS, THEY ARE NO USE.
Stage 2, March 2020: the virus is very dangerous but we don’t know what to do. So we have decided to close everything, just in case, except for food shops and essential services. This idea is copied from Italy (which did such a wonderful job with the virus, LOL), and also from China. Greece is not concerned that it will bankrupt businesses: what is important is that we pretend to be doing something.
Stage 3: May 2020: THERE IS NO TRANSMISSION OF THE VIRUS FROM SURFACES. THIS WAS ALL MALAKIES WE MADE UP. Bars, cafes and restaurants reopen in Greece. YOU MUST WEAR GLOVES AND KEEP 2M APART. MASKS MUST BE WORN BY SUPERMARKET STAFF, BUT NOT BY CUSTOMERS (WE KNOW THIS IS NOT LOGICAL, BUT WE ARE IDIOTS)
Stage 4. June 2020: the virus is transmitted by water droplets in the air. MASKS ARE COMPULSORY, EVEN OUTDOORS WHERE THEY MAKE NO DIFFERENCE. KEEP A SOCIAL DISTANCE TO PREVENT INFECTION: THIS IS 1M, 1.5M OR 2M ACCORDING TO COUNTRY. WE HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE SAFE DISTANCE IS, SO WE MAKE IT UP. GREECE CAN HAVE TOURISTS, AND THEY WILL BE TESTED ACCORDING TO BARCODES. EVERYTHING IS VERY SAFE FOR TOURISM (BAREFACED LIE)
Stage 5: July 2020: MASKS ARE NEEDED IN SUPERMARKETS AGAIN. MASKS ARE VERY IMPORTANT (ALTHOUGH WE HAVE NO MEDICAL RESEARCH TO PROVE THIS). But tourists are very safe and the only problem is with stupid Greeks.
AND SO IT GOES ON. FOR A VIRUS THAT HAS A CASE FATALITY RATE WELL BELOW THAT OF SEASONAL FLU.
and? among people I know the fatality rate was higher, and the long-covid still makes 3 suffer after months.
Purely a distorted narrative to support a do nothing viewpoint. The CFR of COVID is at least 10 times that of flu, possibly more. The Ro of COVID is massive compared to flu so the rate of spread is also much higher. That has consequences for healthcare systems.
Viruses that spread through the respiratory system do so in droplets expressed by an infected person. Those droplets can either settle on a surface and pass to another person through touch, the main route for larger droplets. Alternatively they can hang in the air for a period of time and be breathed in by another person, the main route for smaller droplets. Both routes are important. At the start of the pandemic when little was known about the virus most advice was based on our knowledge of flu and there the dominant transmission is through touch so advice was based on that assumption. As more research was done it became clear that with COVID the aerosol route was more important so the advice changed. It’s called science. We observe, we measure, we analyse and we learn. Obviously some people never do.
Aerosols dissipate more outside than inside so this route is more dangerous inside where the aerosol load in a volume of air can build up over time. There is no such thing as a safe distance. The closer you are to an infected person the more directly you breath in what they have breathed out. The further away the less. The idea is to stay as far away as possible from anyone else but if you are going to have a law you need a distance to decide whether you are breaking the law or not. Setting that distance is a matter of judgement so different governments will set different values.
Wearing a mask has lots of problems if you are free of COVID but you are in the presence of people infected with COVID, i.e. they are not very good at protecting you. Really you need something approaching a hazmat suit and a lot of training in sterile handling techniques. Wearing a mask is quite good, but not perfect, for protecting other people if you are a person infected with COVID. We don’t know who is infected so everybody needs to wear a mask. The east understands this, the west doesn’t.
Well said and clearly explained, these are the facts that I have been hearing on BBC throughout this pandemic and as scientists kept up their research their results updated the facts. Covid 19 is far from an ordinary flu germ, thousands of people have continuing health problems as a result of catching it. Unfortunate it is that so many Greek people have no idea of how they are putting their lives on the line by refusing to be vaccinated.
Not even remotely accurate -masks have been recommended by WHO since January 29, 2020. It’s been droplets from the beginning, hence the “touch” you spoke of because you can touch the the droplets and then touch your mouth, thereby contracting the virus- gloves or no gloves. That’s why the masks work. They catch the droplets so that they do not exit the wearer’s mouth and that’s why everyone has to wear one-to protect everyone around them. Transmission was then raised to airborne as well as the droplets since they can be quite small and linger in the air; the masks still serve their purpose in this case.
Just because you can’t keep up with the science and are confused does not mean that response been mismanaged everywhere. Indeed it has been mismanaged in Greece. It’s a lost opportunity that governments only use globalism when it comes to capitalism and did not coordinate on a global scale to combat this pandemic so in that way it has been mismanaged as well. But “all governments in the world” did not do as you said.
