On Wednesday, the number of deaths exceeded 17,000 Covid-patients since the begin of the pandemic 1.5 years ago.

The situation in public hospitals of the periphery remains grim due to shortages of medical and nursing staff and ICU bed, with some general hospitals suspending service and turn only Covid.

According to reports from Serres, the shortage of nurses is dramatic as 50 people are in suspension for bieng unvaccinated, 15 are on long-term leave and 30 are about to retire. On Wednesday alone, 5 Covid-patients aged 54-89 have died. Three of them were unvaccinated and two vaccinated, all with underlying health issues.

Konstantinos Syrigos, Oncology professor, told state broadcaster ERT that when it comes to triage due to pressure, one of the selection criteria is who has more chance to come out of the intubation alive.
