Two more cases of the Omicron variant have been confirmed in Greece, the president of the scientific council of the Institute for Biological Research of the Academy of Athens (IIBEAA), Dimitris Thanos, said on Monday. the total cases of the Omicros are now 5.
According to Thanos, one of the two new cases detected in Crete, is a domestic transmission, as the person infected after contact with another confirmed case of Omicron.
State broadcaster ERT reported earlier on Monday that the two new -Omicron-suspected cases were detected on Crete over the past weekend. The two women had recently returned from a trip to France.
During a speech at the Panhellenic Conference on Economics and Health Policies, Thanos reportedly stressed that all four of the five cases of Omicron in Greece have a history of travel, however, all citizens were fully vaccinated.
Director of Epidemiological Surveillance of EODY, Flora Kontopidou, clarified that out of the total of 5 cases, four have a history of travel to South Africa and France, while one is domestic and is a close case contact with travel history.
No patient developed severe symptoms, neither was there need for hospitalization. However, all four infection cases had a high viral load at the time of diagnosis, Kontopidou added.
The first Omicron variant was confirmed in Crete and two more in Athens at the end of November.

Evidence in South Africa and the UK suggests that the number of cases of Omicron doubles every 2 to 3 days. Do people really believe there are only 5 cases in Greece two weeks after the first case was detected?
I would agree that it’s likely there are many more cases, but maybe that’s a positive sign? If there are many more cases than have actually been reported, perhaps it was so mild or asymptomatic that those infected either didn’t know they had it, or didn’t feel the need to get tested thinking they were just “a bit under the weather”. Fingers crossed.
I live in the UK, I read an article from the South African Dr this morning, she was the first person to detect the Omicron variant and informed everyone that it is very very mild and that Boris Johnson is overreacting because Omicron is extremely mild.
We should be now be allowed to carry on as normal and make sure we keep ourselves safe without all the restrictions that they keep coming up with. People’s immune system is not as it should be because we have to keep everything operating theatre clean, we all know how to keep oursevles safe because of how bad COVID-19 has been over the past 2 years, once we have had the booster this variant is less effective on our body, yes it has spread quite quickly but our government is going into panic mode. We need certain bugs in our bodies to help us build the immune system enough to get rid of this COVID-19 for good.
meanwhile the first Omicron-death recorded in UK.
They voted for Brexit and Tory governments in the UK. I would,nt rely on them to know what they are doing.
