An ambulance was engulfed in flames in Metamorfosi suburb of north-western Athens on Tuesday, after there was an explosion initially in its engine followed by an explosion of an oxygen cylinder in its cabin, media report.
The ambulance of a private clinic arrived in the area transferring a patient from a hospital to her home. Right after the mission was accomplished and the vehicle turned around the corner to drive back to its station, the oxygen exploded.
Residents told npress.gr that an explosion took place.
The Fire Service said that the fire broke out while the vehicle was on the move and that 8 fire fighters with 2 trucks operated to extinguish the blaze.
