Residents and tourists at the village Megala Alonia -Megaloni – were ordered to evacuate due to a wildfire that broke out in the northern part of the island of Zakynthos short before Wednesday noon.
Residents have received a message via the 112 emergency number to evacuate toward the village of Ano Volimes.

Police has closed the road to Platy Gialos and the one from the port of Agios Nikolaos, local media imerazante.gr reported.
According to the Fire Service, 30 firefighters with 11 fire engines, one team on foot are working to contain the blaze, assisted by five water-dropping aircraft and one helicopter.
Despite the strong winds blowing in the area, firefighters and aerial means managed to largely contain the blaze, local media reported.
However, the Fire Service has not announced yet the complete extinction of the forest fire on Zakynthos.
65 forest fires broke out in 24 hours, the Fire Service has announced.
