A power outage has hit the Sporades islands since 7:30 on Thursday morning, following a strong rainfall at night. The electricity problem has occurred due to a damage at the large substation on the island of Skiathos where the large submarine power pipeline ends.
According to local media skiathoslife.gr, it is the large parts of three islands of the northern Sporades. Skiathos, Skopelos and Alonnisos, affected by the power outage.
The damage has occurred in the new network that provides the islands with electricity from the substation in Evia.
Teams of the Electricity Distribution Network Operator (DEDIEE) are trying to locate the fault and maybe provide power from the Public Power Corporation (PPC) substation in Lafkos on Mt. Pilion on the mainland as it has happened in the past, cnngreece reports.
Speaking to state broadcaster ERT, the mayor of Skopelos, Stamatis Perissis, said that the Sporades islands are currently full of people, adding that he hopes, a solution will be found soon so that no one suffers and the tourist season ends smoothly.
According to latest information short after 10 o’ clock in the morning, DEDIEE teams have managed to gradually supply the islands with power through the old network until the damage has been fixed.
