Femicide in Greece: An 81-year-old man hit and killed his 20 years young wife while she was sleeping. The man fatally wounded the 61-year-old victim hitting her on the head with a sledgehammer. He then committed suicide with a knife.
According to local media messinialive, the man cut his throat with a knife.
The bodies were discovered by their son Tuesday noon and called the police.
The son and neighbors told authorities and media that the couple did not have problems as they seemed happy together.
Some claimed that the perpetrator had health issues.
The community in the town of Bouka in Messinia, south Peloponnese, is in shock because the perpetrator was well-known in the town due to his as cantor in the local church.
According to local media, the farmer had psychological problems and had attempted also in the past to take his own life.
The woman is the 14th victim of femicide in Greece since the start of 2022.
Over 20 young and older women were killed in the county by current and former partners in 2021, when the phenomenon started to reach unprecedented levels.
