Hardly had inspectors left the island of Naxos and the sunbeds and the umbrellas returned to the island’s beaches.
Shortly after the controls carried out at the beaches about violations regarding illegal sunbeds and umbrellas , some business people put the sunbeds back in their old places again, even in the middle of the night showing that neither the mobilization of the authorities neither the “Free Public Beaches” movement across Greece bother them.
According to complaints made on the FB of the group “Save the beaches of Naxos NOW“, sunbeds were installed again at the beaches of Agia Anna, Plaka, Agios Georgios and Agios Prokopios.
“Last night, around 1 o’ clock in the morning, we were walking on the beach of Plaka and we saw people with drills screwing umbrellas in place,”
“As soon as the inspectors of the state estate service left a certain beach, the beach bars started and set everything up again,” said Eleni Andrianopoulou, a member of the movement for free beaches on the island.
“We came to stay”… The message sent by the members of the movement “Save the beaches of Naxos” through “Radiophony Cyclades 101.3″…
Finally, from the hundreds of pairs of eyes of residents and visitors, their testimonies, photos and videos published nationwide in newspapers and television, the following happened:
From August 3 to August 9 they removed everything they could from Agios Prokopi, Agia Anna and especially from Plaka with trucks, tractors, and an army of workers. They put them further back, hid them closer, took them somewhere else. They had been alerted to the arrival of the Lands Office inspections which started on Friday.
According to denouncements, local authorities informed indirectly which beaches would be inspected through a series of interviews in media.
Yesterday morning at one o’clock (sixth night) they seem to have started with the repositioning of furniture and on the last beach that was checked the beautiful and brutally abused Plaka.
Members of the Free Beaches movement of Naxos have filed to the prosecutor’s office, local media naxospress.gr reported.
