Greece filed a demarche with NATO’s General Secretariat to protest a congratulatory message to Turkey for its 1922 victory over Greece in Asia Minor. The message was posted on social media by the Headquarters of the Allied Land Command (LANDCOM) in Izmir.
ZAFER BAYRAMINIZ KUTLU OLSUN!
LANDCOM wishes a happy Victory and Turkish Armed Forces Day to our host nation.
On this very special day, we would like to express our gratitude to Türkiye for their hospitality as our hosts here at #LANDCOM.

The order for the demarche through Greece’s Permanent Representation in NATO was given by the Greek Foreign Affairs Ministry, diplomatic sources told media.
In the demarche following a Twitter (X) posting, Greece termed as unacceptable the linking by LANDCOM of Turkiye’s national armed forces day with a day of victory over an Alliance member, they noted.
it should be recalled that the LANDCOM posted a similar ‘Congratulations” message to Turkey also last year.
The post was deleted after Greece’s demarche.
PS Next year, the LANDCOM will possible add “we congratulate Greeks for their defeat” or something?
