The Christmas Tree in Klafthmonos Square in downtown Athens stays “half-naked from the waste down” -as media reported – after its decoration has been stolen. The Grinch in Athens did not remove all ornaments as they obviously stole what they could reach with their hands.
The tree was set up and decorated only last week.
The same picture reportedly prevails in another 24 Christmas trees in several districts of the Greek capital.
According to OPEN TV, unknown thieves have been stealing not only the ornaments but also plants …
Speaking to the private TV channel, deputy mayor of Athens, Sakis Kollatos said that this has been happening in Athens municipality every year.
“Where there are squares that they belong to neighborhoods, the situation is good. But Klafthomos square is an example that when night falls, various people come out. This tragic picture is not everywhere. We know them, we face them every year. It happens in 5-6 spots. Agios Panteleimonas, Attica Square, Agios Pavlos and other places,” the deputy mayor underlined.
Really,has it come to this!
But even worse…people stealing oil from gravestones!!! ☹️
The missing Xmas balls were stolen last year and that is why the Athens municipality decided to prevent this to happen again this year: the decorations are in fact purposely placed high enough so as to make it very difficult to reach and steal them. The Xmas tree in front of Varvakion covered market is also half decorated!
It is a clever solution to prevent theft of decorations, but it won’t, be long before we shall have do away with decorating our Xmas trees. You may find the one at the top end of Apostolou Pavlou, also half decorated. 😩
thanks for the info
