The first liver transplant from a living donor was performed in Greece, the Health Ministry announced on Wednesday.
The transplant, from father to daughter, was successfully carried out on Tuesday at Laiko Hospital in Athens.
The operation that lasted several hours was carried out by Professor of Surgery specialized in transplants Georgios Sotiropoulos, with the contribution of German Professor of Surgery Dieter Broering.

Both surgeons, Sotiropoulos (above), Broering (down) are world-renowned for organ transplant.

It is of special symbolism that a father gave a second chance to his beloved daughter.
The first liver transplant from a living donor and indeed, from a father to a daughter, was successfully performed on Tuesday at the People’s Hospital, according to the Deputy Minister of Health, Irini Agapidakis announced the transplant on Facebook.
“Good recovery to the father and daughter, I wish that this power of hope will always accompany them in life,” Agapidaki wrote among others.
