4-year-old boy intubated after brutally beaten by mother’s partner

A four-year-old boy is struggling for its life intubated in the ICU of an Athens hospital after it was brutally beaten by his mother’s partner. The boy was already in come when it was transferred to the Children’s Hospital early Wednesday evening.

According to media information, the boy has multiple fractures and a hematoma on his spine.

from Megara, western Attica, who was severely beaten by his mother’s partner was intubated and in a coma at the Aglaia Kyriakou Children’s Hospital.

At the same time, authorities have launched a manhunt to arrest the 25-year-old perpetrator who remains on the run still at Thursday noon.

Together with three siblings and the mother, the boy had mved from the city of Lamia, Central Greece, to Vlychos settlement by Megara, western Attica, where they lived in the perpetrator’s home.

Authorities are reportedly seeking for the man both in Lamia and in Vlychos.

According to state broadcaster ERT, the man had beaten the boy before that was also taken to a hospital. However, it is not clear whether the staff or the hospital social services alerted authorities as they should.

The 29-year-old mother allegedly testified that, in the last few months, the 25-year-old perpetrator had started to show violent behavior towards all her children and herself, while the 4-year-old had been hospitalized again after a violent beating.

Juvenile Protection had been informed about the violence and a request to the Juvenile Prosecutor’s Office was pending for the removal of the children, but it had not yet happened.

ANT1 TV reported that the boy was hospitalized already two other times, one with burn injuries and one with beating injuries.

After the incident on Wednesday, the boy’s siblings have been transferred to the same hospital with a prosecutor’s order for their protection.

Note that young children in need of protection often end up in hospitals as there is shortage of accommodation, facilities or foster parents stand by in the country, still in 2024.

It is the third child within the first days of 2024  that falls victim to adult’s brutality or negligence. From the government side we haven’t heard of any initiative to protect the helpless children, not even from the newly established Family Ministry.
