Airport of Heraklio, Crete, to close for five days in February

The airport of Heraklio on the island of Crete will close for five days in February, due to replacement of tarmac on the runway, media report on Monday.

The airport “Nikos Kazantzakis” will be closed on February 19-24, 2024.

The planned upgrade project is to be carried out in the middle lane of the runway of the “Nikos Kazantzakis” airport, media report on Monday.

During February 19-24 the airport will be closed and no flights will operate.

The project is seen as complex and also absolutely necessary and its should be completed in record time to cause the least possible problems in the operation of the airport.

It is the minimum period of time required to carry out the necessary asphalt replacement work on the runway of the airport of Heraklio.

According to local media creta24.gr, the relevant NOTAM approving the closure has already arrived.

People wanting to travel to and from Heraklio will have to do so with ferries or by airplanes via the airports of Chania and Sitia.
